Vern Hawkins Youth Summer Running Camp

We are excited to offer the sixth annual Vern Hawkins Youth Summer Running Camp June 17-20 th, 2024.  The previous camps were a huge success and we hope this event will continue to grow.  The camp is open this year to boys and girls entering 3rd through 7th grades in all school districts.  We will meet every evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Georgetown High School Track. 

The purpose of our camp is to introduce the sport of running, specifically track and cross country, to elementary age students. We will also show students how running can be a part of a healthy lifestyle which can last throughout a lifetime.  Our ultimate goal is to encourage healthy behaviors and increase physical activity in our youth. 

Campers will learn about proper running form, stretching, nutrition and basic training fundamentals. They will get to experience trail running on our beautiful wooded cross country course, as well as run on our school track.  Training will be provided by the Georgetown Cross Country coaching staff and special guest instructors. In addition to education, the campers will be physically active and play interactive running games every day.  Every student who participates in the camp will receive a camp T-shirt and other prizes.
