Track sprinter racing spikes usually have a thin rigid plastic bottom with 8 to 10 spike wells. CC spikes have a thicker rubber bottom with more tread and a thicker foam midsole. They typically have 4 to 6 spike wells.
The best spike for most cross country races is pyramid shape between 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length, depending on the course terrain and condition. A 3/8 inch length spike is most commonly used for cross country.
